TRC BECOMES A GIVER OF HOPE FOR

MUSICLAND GIFT FOUNDATION

When Kenny Kahn, a longtime friend and client of Taylor Richards & Conger, approached Lyn Conger about supporting his dream of helping cancer patients heal through the emotional power of music, he struck a resonant chord with Lyn, as his brother succumbed to a rare form of cancer 21 years ago. Lyn and the TRC team quickly decided to join the fight against this insidious disease.

Cancer touches all of us, either personally or relatively. It is not a single disease but rather a group of over 200 different diseases, each with its own unique genetic and molecular profile. The battle is never-ending, and researchers are not only identifying new types of cancer but also focusing on understanding the many subtypes within each broad category, as each may behave differently and require different treatments.

As Kenny Kahn realistically put it, “Learning you have cancer is a real gut punch”. Now in full remission for his non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer, he still remembers his dislike for the silence inside the hospital and the waiting with no distractions during his treatments. Knowing that music not only lifts patients’ spirits but also has a powerful effect on blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety, Kenny and his daughter, Rachel, founded the MusicLand Gift Foundation.

Musicland has partnered with the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI). Their mission is to support the development of a national model for cancer survivorship. This endeavor will shape a standard for cancer care at a national level, including a hub for innovation, a cancer national service line, philanthropic support to benefit ongoing patient needs, clinical trials, research, and education.

They recognize that cancer survivorship care is complex and multifaceted. Cancer patients and their families face similar challenges no matter where they live. The principles developed by LCI—whether in survivorship, symptom management, or caregiver support—are not confined to one hospital system.

Until the fight against cancer of all types is won, we must utilize whatever means are at our disposal to eradicate it. Whether it affects you directly, a friend, a colleague, or a family member, cancer affects all of us and could be in your future. Please join us in the fight today!
